The Chamber’s Economic Development Council, City of Olathe lead the charge

The Olathe Chamber of Commerce’s Economic Development Council, in partnership with the City of Olathe, is all about attraction.

A cooperative relationship between the Olathe Chamber and the City of Olathe help maintain strong ties with the Kansas Department of Commerce and the Kansas City Area Development Council to attract new and retain our existing companies to our community.

The goal of the City of Olathe is to sustain long-term economic health and vitality of the City through the retention, expansion and attraction of businesses and development that enhance property values, increase personal income, and make a positive contribution to the quality of life of the citizens of Olathe.

The pro-growth business environment and collaborative planning philosophy in Olathe foster a dynamic feeling of community and cooperation.

The Olathe EDC works closely with commercial property owners, business owners and developers to assure that all of our businesses are functioning at their highest and best use, contributing to the City’s tax base and helping us achieve the City’s economic development goals. In addition, the Olathe Chamber works to actively market the City, recruit new businesses, and help existing businesses thrive.

The City has a number of economic development programs available to eligible businesses and/or property owners. Many of the programs offer specific incentives and funding. Some of the incentives are available only in specific areas, while others are available throughout the City.

Over the past four years, the Olathe Economic Development Council helped

  • bring in or retain nearly 6,000 jobs
  • create and fill more than 3.7 million sq. ft. of new or existing space
  • bring in a total investment of more than $630 million.

The past year was no different as the record numbers continued. The EDC, with the City of Olathe, helped bring in or retain 1000 jobs and fill nearly 1 million sq. ft. of new and existing space in 2022. Their work also brought in an investment of approximately $191 million in Olathe last year.

On the retail side, a dozen new restaurants or storefronts opened their doors. From the long-awaited arrival of Fareway Meat Market to the arrival of Tall Trellis Brew Co., we saw an investment of $5 million last year in that area.

Lineage Logistics opened a state-of-the-art cold warehouse space in south Olathe to lead the charge in the manufacturing and warehouse space this year. Additionally, Jett Trucking’s addition and the beginning of the new Coke warehouse brought in an investment of $110 million.

The new KCAS headquarters, the new Arrello Apartments in downtown and MidAmerica Nazarene University’s new student center helped bring in an additional $76 million of investment.

They say, “If you build it, they will come.” Well, we’re building and they’re coming.

During its more than 150 years, Olathe has prospered. Today, it is one of the Midwest’s dominant business, economic and cultural hubs. With more than 150,000 citizens, Olathe is one of the fastest-growing communities in Kansas, offering businesses and residents the best opportunity for success.

There’s a reason so many companies are making their way to or staying in Olathe. Our partnership with the City of Olathe is making that possible.
