New Member Orientation Luncheon this Friday

Be sure to join us at 11:15 a.m. this Friday, Sept. 8, for our New Member Orientation Luncheon. Whether you’re a new member, a member who has never attended, or have new employees, you and your employees are welcome to attend.

The doors open at 11:15 a.m. and will take place at Olathe Health Cancer Center, 15123 S. OMC Pkwy. The program begins at 11:30 a.m. and is followed by a networking session from 12:30 – 1 p.m. in the Cancer Center conference room. Please join us to learn how to make the most of your Chamber membership. Register here.

Ready Business Workshop set for Sept. 19

Are you and your business ready if disaster strikes? You can be well on your way to being prepared by joining the City of Olathe and FEMA for the Olathe Fire Department Ready Business Workshop from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 19 at the Olathe Downtown Library, 260 E. Santa Fe.

Register today for the free workshop that will help you develop a plan to be ready to take action. The Ready Business Workshop will provide:

  • Experts to explain risks specific to Olathe
  • Information explaining the level of support you can expect from your local emergency management agency if a large-scale disaster occurs
  • Preparedness actions you can take before, during, and after disasters
  • Provide simple materials and helpful links to additional resources.

Regardless of your experience level in preparing for disasters, this free workshop is designed for you. Register today.

Chamber Social another big hit

Chamber Social another big hit

Our third Olathe Chamber of Commerce Social of the year was a rolling success. Last week’s Chamber Social took place at Mission Bowl, 1020 S. Weaver. It was a perfect setting for our new networking opportunity.

Our weekly Chamber Coffee sponsors are Country Club Bank, Olathe Health, Harlan and Jason Parker State Farm Insurance and Xfinity.

Plenty coming up this fall at the Olathe Chamber

There’s plenty going on at the Olathe Chamber of Commerce in the coming months. Fall is a busy time, we know, but carving out some time for some Olathe Chamber fun will be well worth it.

Make plans to join us for the 2023 Olathe Chamber of Commerce Foundation event from 6 – 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 27 at Topgolf, 10611 Nall Ave.

Enjoy a fun night of networking, food, silent auction, raffles and more while supporting the Olathe Chamber’s Foundation.

The annual State of the City Luncheon will take place at 11:15 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 27 at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Olathe Conference Center. Come to hear about all the successes from the City of Olathe and what’s ahead in 2024.

Finally, don’t forget our Career Expo, which will take place all day on Thursday, Nov. 9 at the Embassy Suites. This event features representatives of different career fields imparting valuable career information to more than 500 area high school students. Check here for more information.

Join Leadership Olathe alums, YOPro for another serve and social event

Please join the Leadership Olathe alumni and our Young Olathe Professionals for another Serve and Social. This event will take place from 4 – 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 14 at the Olathe Family YMCA, 21400 W. 153rd St.

The joint event brings together our two of our most active groups to celebrate and give back to our wonderful community.

The first hour will be focused on giving back to the community, doing some light gardening outside at the YMCA from 4 – 5 p.m. Bring some gloves. At 5 p.m., we’ll have a social hour at Mi Ranchito, 920 S. Harrison St.

We hope to see a bunch of our Leadership Olathe alumni and YOPro group at the event. There’s no cost, but we ask you please RSVP to Melissa Hess by Sept. 11.

September Fourth Friday two weeks away

The Fourth Friday party is back later this month.

The celebrations, sponsored by the Olathe Chamber of Commerce’s Olathe Convention & Visitors Bureau and the City of Olathe continue from 6 – 9 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 22.

Fourth Fridays is presented by Honda and Subaru of Olathe. And a big thanks to our other Fourth Fridays sponsors Azura Credit Union, City of Olathe, Fry Orthodontics, Humana, Leblanc and Associates Dentistry for Children, Olathe Communities that Care and Tommy’s Express Car Wash.

September’s Fourth Friday event will feature Misled on stage. Mr. Stinky Feet will start the show. The concert starts at 6 p.m.

Be sure to make plans to join us this month, whether you’re down there to have fun, or want to sponsor a booth at the event. September will feature our Sip ‘n’ Shop event again. The cost is $25 for members. This month will also feature a car show from the Mustang Club, three large, illuminated puppets will be making their way around downtown, and beverages from Touring Taps. If all that’s not enough, there’s plenty of sipping and shopping options down at the Junque Drawer Boutique and Three T Baker’s Boutique, too. For more information, please contact Allison Calvin.

Old Settlers Days this weekend

It’s just two days away. Be sure to make your way downtown for the annual Johnson County Old Settlers Days this Thursday – Saturday in downtown Olathe. This year’s theme is “Lasso the Future.” The annual celebration of the early settlers of Johnson County begins Thursday night, Sept. 7, and runs through the final concert Saturday night in the heart of our beautiful downtown. Johnson County Old Settlers Days on the horizon

Residents can drop off their unwanted household hazardous waste at the City of Olathe’s drop-off event from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at the HHW facility, 1420 S. Robinson Dr., behind the City of Olathe Public Works and Customer Service. This is also a secure shredding event, so bring any paper items you’d like to have destroyed. Residents will be asked to provide a photo ID and a general description of their HHW items. For the safety of staff, customers will be asked to remain in their vehicle at all times during the drop-off. Staff will remove all materials. Visit here for a full list of acceptable items.

Save the date for the next Johnson County Community College Continuing Education Business Breakfast Series event from 7 – 9 a.m. on Sept. 26 at the Capital Federal Conference Center in the Regnier Center at JCCC. More information about the event, “Making New Employees Feel Welcomed: Understanding the Onboarding Process” can be found here.

Tickets and sponsorships are now on sale for the Olathe Public Library Foundation’s “A Taste of Literacy” fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 23. This year’s event will feature award-winning author, bookseller, and literacy festival director, Alex George. Alex will speak on the importance of literacy citizenship, a philosophy that creates a culture of reading and encourages support for the literacy community. Check here for more information.

Johnson County Government has bid and RFP opportunities open for goods and services including real estate brokerage, software solutions, banking, and contractors across a variety of trades. Check here to learn about how vendors can go through the process of viewing and registering as a Supplier in Johnson County’s e-bidding program, IonWave.

Olathe Public Schools recommended 119 high school seniors to receive the Kansas Seal of Biliteracy based on their academic achievement in English and an additional world language for the 2022-2023 school year. The recommendation was submitted to the Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE). Last school year, 87 seniors were recommended and awarded.

Manchester Park Elementary School fifth grade teacher, Rachel Swearengin, was named the 2023 Kansas History Teacher of the Year. The award is presented annually by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, the nation’s leading organization dedicated to K-12 American history education.
