Register now for State of the City Luncheon

Make plans to attend the Oct. 27 State of the City Luncheon to hear all the great things happening in our wonderful city. Be sure to register today. The deadline is Friday, Oct. 20.

The annual luncheon is hosted by the Olathe Chamber with Olathe Health as our presenting sponsor and will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 27 at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Olathe Conference Center.

There will be a video presentation and Olathe Mayor John Bacon will review some of the city’s accomplishments over the past year and let us know why it’s great to be here, now. Register here.

Leadership Olathe registration open, blood drive set

The Olathe Chamber of Commerce’s popular and highly successful Leadership Olathe program is now accepting applications. It’s time to apply and be a part of the Class of 2024. Apply today.

This marks the 43rd year of the program open to residents of Olathe. It will be conducted in nine, full-day sessions running January through May. For more information and applications, visit here. The registration deadline is Friday, Nov. 10.

Also, be sure to donate some blood for your chance to win Aerosmith concert tickets. The blood drive, sponsored by Terracon and Leadership Olathe, will take place from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 19 at Terracon, 10841 S. Ridgeview Road. Advance voting begins soon; learn more about local candidates

The Nov. 7 general election is four weeks away. Stay informed about all the candidates by checking out the Johnson County Public Policy Council website here.

If you haven’t registered to vote, next Tuesday, Oct. 17 is the deadline. Register to vote today. Don’t forget to make your voice heard. Tuesday, Nov. 7 is election day. Check here for any questions about polling locations, advance voting and poll hours.

Ready Business Workshop set for Oct. 23

Are you and your business ready is disaster strikes? You can be well on your way if you join the City of Olathe and FEMA for the Olathe Fire Department Ready Business Workshop from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 23 at the Olathe Downtown Library, 260 E. Santa Fe.

Register today for the free workshop that will help you develop a plan to be ready to take action. The Ready Business Workshop will provide:

  • Experts to explain risks specific to Olathe
  • Information explaining the level of support you can expect from your local emergency management agency if a large-scale disaster occurs
  • Preparedness actions you can take before, during, and after disasters
  • Provide simple materials and helpful links to additional resources.

Regardless of your experience level in preparing for disasters, this free workshop is designed for you. Register today.

Chamber Career Expo coming in November

Fall is a busy time, we know, but carving out some time for some Olathe Chamber of Commerce fun is well worth it.

Our Career Expo will take place all day on Thursday, Nov. 9 at the Embassy Suites. This event features representatives of different career fields imparting valuable career information to more than 500 area high school students. Check here for more information.

Don’t miss Olathe Ford Lincoln’s Customer Appreciation event from 4 – 7 p.m. tomorrow, Oct. 11, as they celebrate 50 years of the world’s happiest customers. There will be food trucks, live music, games and entertainment, along with a visit from KC Wolf.

Join Henderson Engineers and the Olathe Fire Department from 5:30 – 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 13, to celebrate Fire Prevention Week. This event will focus on fire prevention and cooking safety with activities, a fire safety-themed story from Olathe Fire Chief Jeff DeGraffenreid, an Olathe firetruck available for viewing, and cooking demonstrations. Residents can drop off their unwanted household hazardous waste at the City of Olathe’s drop-off event from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at the HHW facility, 1420 S. Robinson Dr., behind the City of Olathe Public Works and Customer Service. This is also a secure shredding event, so bring any paper items you’d like to have destroyed. Residents will be asked to provide a photo ID and a general description of their HHW items. For the safety of staff, customers will be asked to remain in their vehicle at all times during the drop-off. Staff will remove all materials. Visit here for a full list of acceptable items.

The 25th Annual Jared Coones Memorial Pumpkin 5K Run/Walk will take place at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14. The start/finish line is at Blackbob Elementary. The run honors the lives of Jared and Jayne Coones and supports cancer research and organizations that support cancer patients and their families. Check here for more info and to register.

The Olathe Firefighters Outreach is hosting the Ignite Giving Gala from 6 – 10 p.m. on Nov. 11 at the Eagles Landing at Lake Olathe, 475 S. Ward Cliff Dr. The program will include a cocktail, dinner, and a live and silent auction. Register here.

If you have multiple day events, a form must be submitted for each day. Listings must meet the established criteria.
