Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving

All of us here at the Olathe Chamber of Commerce would like to wish each and every one of our members and their families a safe and happy Thanksgiving.

Our office will be closed on Thanksgiving and on Friday, Nov. 25. We’ll reopen at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 28.

Small Business Saturday is Nov. 26

Black Friday is one of the most popular shopping days of the year, but let’s not forget what comes next – Small Business Saturday.

At last week’s Olathe City Council meeting, Mayor John Bacon proclaimed this Saturday, Nov. 26, as Small Business Saturday. He presented the proclamation to the owners of Sylas & Maddy’s Homemade Ice Cream.

Small businesses are vital to Olathe’s economy and offer some great deals on excellent holiday gifts. Small business owners and their staffs are among the most active Olathe Chamber volunteers. Don’t forget to do some shopping at a small business this Saturday.

Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting

It’s time to kick off the holiday season with the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting on Friday, Dec. 2.

The annual tree lighting ceremony and celebration will take place from 5:30 – 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2 at the Olathe Community Center, 1205 E. Kansas City Road.

Join Mayor John Bacon as he and special guest Fox 4 reporter Matt Stewart will light the Mayor’s Christmas tree. Then, enjoy an evening of music and fun. Visit Santa and enjoy some festive music from the Olathe Civic Jazz Band and Olathe South High School Choir. You can buy hot cocoa and kettle corn and there will be free shuttle service available at Olathe North High School, 600 E. Prairie St. Check here for more information about the event.

New Member Orientation next week

Be sure to join us at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 2, for our New Member Orientation Luncheon. Whether you’re a new member, a member who has never attended, or have new employees, you and your employees are welcome to attend.

The event begins at 11:30 a.m. and will take place at Olathe Medical Center, Doctor’s Building 2, 20333 W. 151st St., room 315. Please join us to learn how to make the most of your Chamber membership. Register here.

The luncheon is presented by Olathe Health. Please remember that masks are required in all Olathe Health facilities.

WHAT'S NEW

World Cup Watch Party a success

What a day to watch the U.S. men in the World Cup.

The Olathe Chamber of Commerce’s Olathe Convention & Visitors Bureau hosted an official U.S. Soccer Watch Party for the 2022 World Cup on Monday at the Garmin Olathe Soccer Complex. The family friendly watch party was powered by Comcast and Xfinity

Nearly 150 people stopped by and enjoyed the game, some great pizza from Minsky’s and World Cup family fun.

The watch party sponsors were Comcast, Xfinity, WestStar Development, Garmin, Kansas State Youth Soccer Association, Subaru of Olathe, Honda of Olathe, the City of Olathe, and Culligan Water.

A big thanks to those who brought non-perishable food items to add to the Harvesters bins at each entrance. Monetary donations can still be made here. Harvesters partners with eight food pantries in Olathe, so we’re proud to assist these pantries during the holiday season.

Take a look at some pics form the event here.
