Fourth Friday are back; don’t miss JAM this week

The first Fourth Friday celebration of the year is this Friday! You won’t want to miss when JAM: Jackson and Mars takes the stage.

The annual celebrations are sponsored by the Olathe Chamber of Commerce’s Olathe Convention & Visitors Bureau and are back in downtown Olathe this summer. The first one will be from 6 – 9 p.m. this Friday, May 26.

The main stage will be set up just east of Kansas Avenue and Loula Street. The stage will face the east with the hub of activity taking place at the intersection of Cherry and Loula streets.

May’s event will feature a performance by Mr. Stinky Feet at Junque Drawer at 6 p.m., a Sip ‘n’ Shop event along Cherry Street between Loula and Cedar, a beer garden, face painters, balloon artist, a magician and an interactive puppet experience throughout the event. And don’t forget, the Downtown Library is open until 8 p.m. with a craft activities for children on the second floor. The gaming room will also be open for teens.

Fourth Fridays is presented by Honda and Subaru of Olathe. And a big thanks to our other Fourth Fridays sponsors Azura Credit Union, City of Olathe, Fry Orthodontics, Humana, Olathe Communities that Care and Tommy’s Express Car Wash.

Bring your appetite on Friday because the food trucks will be there. Smoke ‘n’ Seoul, Taste of Brazil, Ate 1 Six Food Truck, Eat Schmidt, the Melt, the Rub, the Hungry Hatch, Ohana’s Shave Ice of Kansas City, One More Scoop and Waffoozles will be serving up food and sweets all night long.

Chamber Golf Classic a huge success

Once again, we had some Chamber of Commerce weather for our annual Olathe Chamber Golf Classic yesterday.

Thank you to everyone who came out to play, volunteered their time or helped sponsor the event. It was great to see so many of you out at Prairie Highlands Golf Course.

Winning the first flight was the Olathe Health team (Larry Brubaker, Jason Hannagan, Mike Knop and Kenny Wilk). Taking second was the Jayhawk Fire Sprinkler team (Keith Alexander, Scott Brammer, Dan Ochs and Kyle Hanson). Taking third was the team from Subaru of Olathe (Jason Weller, Josh Hayes and Jordan Wilcox).

Winning the second flight was the KVC Health Systems team (Chad Anderson, Erik Nyberg, Alex Mendez and Jerimiah Schultz). Taking second was the team from Strickland Construction (Frank George, Eric Hughes, Tom Manning and Jon Roberts).

The straightest drive went to Brad Mills of Atmos Energy, the closest to the pin was Doug Huston of Huston Contracting, the longest putt was Logan Lucas, the longest drive for the women was Mary Moore of Pulse Design Group, and the longest drive for the men was Bryan Newell of Scott Rice Office Works.

Hannagan named CEO of Southwest KC Market

Hannagan named CEO of
Southwest KC Market

Jason Hannagan is the new CEO of The University of Kansas Health System, Southwest Kansas City Market, and senior vice president of the Kansas City Division. Hannagan will oversee all existing Olathe Health programs, services and facilities, as well as those in the surrounding area with a focus on the southwest Kansas City area.

Previously, Hannagan served as interim CEO after Olathe Health joined The University of Kansas Health System in January 2023, and has been with Olathe Health since 2019. As a valued senior leader, Hannagan will continue to guide Olathe Health through integration with the health system.

“I’ve gotten to know Jason the last several months, and know we share the same vision for the future of healthcare in our region,” Tammy Peterman, MS, RN, FAAN, NEA-BC, president of the Kansas City Division, said. “We are very excited to have him (Hannagan) as part of our team and look forward to the continued integration of Olathe Health into The University of Kansas Health System as we work to provide high-quality care close to home.”

ECJC grants still available

The Johnson County Small Business Recovery Grant Application has reopened and the Enterprise Center in Johnson County is currently accepting all new applications.

The program offers qualified recipients a one-time $20,000 grant to offset revenue losses of 25% or greater incurred from 2019 through 2021 due to COVID-19. There are (20) $20,000 Small Business Recovery grants available. These grants are from Johnson County’s ARPA funds.

CHAMBER CONNECTION

Join the Soccer Skills Challenge event at Garmin Olathe Soccer Complex from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. on May 27 during the Kansas City Invitational Tournament. The competition is perfect for players of all ages and skill levels, and it promises to test your dribbling, shooting, and passing abilities. Registration for the Skills Challenge is now open here. The cost to participate is only $20 per player, which includes access to all of the challenges.

KVC Health Systems announced it is expanding inpatient pediatric and adult mental health treatment capacity and access in the greater Kansas City area and across the region with a new 72-bed mental health inpatient facility in Olathe adjacent to KVC’s office. Congrats! The Benton House of Olathe was recently awarded “Best Assisted Living” by US News and World Report. The award was achieved based on recent resident and family surveys. If you have multiple day events, a form must be submitted for each day. Listings must meet the established criteria.
