The registration deadline for our third Business Lunch Series event of the year is quickly approaching. Join us from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 14 at the Cunningham Center on the campus of MidAmerica Nazarene University, 12041 E. Pioneer Blvd., and learn how artificial intelligence can help your business. Register by 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9.

Joe Leigh, Director of IT for Kompass Kapital, will serve as the moderator for the luncheon and be joined by panelists Michael Damman, VP of Engineering at Sailes; Aadhar Garg, Co-Founder and Managing Principal of STEPS Consulting Group; and Josh Woods, M365 Manager/Security and Identity Architect at Moonshot Solutions.

August Fourth Friday is coming in three weeks

Great crowds turned out for the May and June Fourth Friday events. We can’t wait to see you at our next event in August.

The annual celebrations are sponsored by the Olathe Chamber of Commerce’s Olathe Convention & Visitors Bureau and are in downtown Olathe this summer. The next one is set for 6 – 9 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 23.

August’s Fourth Friday event will feature JAM: Jackson & Mars. The concert starts at 6 p.m.

These free events offer live music, kids’ activities, food trucks, beer gardens and so much more. Join us to highlight and promote your business. Offer marketing materials, promotions, sell products or services or offer samples.

Serve & Social set for October

Be sure to join Leadership Olathe alumni and Evolve for their next Serve & Social from 4 – 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3.

They’ll start at KidsTLC where the Olathe Chamber of Commerce leadership alumni and our young professionals will help decorate for their homecoming. The second half of the fun afternoon will be at Austin’s Bar & Grill, 2103 E. 151st St.

The Homecoming decorating will be for the youths living in KidsTLC’s Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility. Volunteers are needed to help create decorations and wall art for KidsTLC’s upcoming themed Homecoming week and pep-rally. Kids living at KidsTLC will participate in the project as well.

Midland Care Pace Center Groundbreaking

Congratulations to Midland Care on the groundbreaking of their new building on the SE corner of College Boulevard and Ridgeview Road this week.

Be sure to join the Olathe Public Library Foundation for their Taste of Literacy event at 6 p.m. on Sept. 14 at the Indian Creek Library. The event will feature renowned author Laura Moriarty. For more info and for ticket information, check here.

The latest Johnson County Community College Continuing Education Business Breakfast Series event will be from 7 – 9 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 27, at the Capital Federal Conference Center in the Regnier Center at JCCC. More information about the event, “Cybersecurity – Data is Gold, Protect it Like Treasure,” can be found here.

The City of Olathe now accepts household plastic shopping bags for recycling at various locations across the city. You can now deposit clean, dry plastic bags, including grocery bags, produce bags, newspaper sleeves, and bubble wrap. Drop-off boxes are located at both locations of the Olathe Public Library, the Olathe Community Center, Olathe Community Recycling Center, and Olathe City Hall. As part of the NexTrex recycling challenge, bags will be collected by Solid Waste staff and weighed. Once Olathe reaches 1,000 pounds of recycled bags, the City of Olathe will receive a free park bench for an Olathe park.

Residents can drop off their unwanted household hazardous waste at the City of Olathe’s drop-off event from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at the HHW facility, 1420 S. Robinson Dr., behind the City of Olathe Public Works and Customer Service. Residents will be asked to provide a photo ID and a general description of their HHW items. For the safety of staff, customers will be asked to remain in their vehicle at all times during the drop-off. Staff will remove all materials. Visit here for a full list of acceptable items.

The City of Olathe and the Olathe Community Center are committed to providing a safe and clean environment for members and visitors. Regularly scheduled cleaning and maintenance is part of that commitment. The community center will be closed Monday, Aug. 5 through Sunday, Aug. 11, for annual cleaning and maintenance. For questions, please call (913) 971-8563 and stay tuned for exciting reopening announcements.

NOTE: You can reach the Olathe community and beyond through the Chamber’s online calendar of events. Members can complete the online form and then submit their events online for approval by staff. If you have multiple day events, a form must be submitted for each day. Listings must meet the established criteria.
