Third Street Social grand opening celebration

While we’ve been enjoying the newest addition to the downtown Olathe restaurant scene for a few weeks, the grand opening and ribbon cutting made it official – Third Street Social is open in Olathe.

Third Street, the locally loved, chef-driven restaurant known for its warm hospitality and Midwest-inspired menus, opened its first on the Kansas side of the state line and Olathe loves it.

The new Olathe restaurant brings everything guests have come to love about Third Street Social – approachable, elevated comfort food, a welcoming atmosphere, and a focus on gathering – now in the heart of the suddenly burgeoning downtown Olathe. The new restaurant is designed as a place where people can connect over great food. The space blends modern energy with familiar comfort, not to mention delicious cuisine.

“We’ve always believed our restaurants should feel like an extension of the community, a place to gather.” Third Street owner Domhnall Molloy said. “Expanding into Kansas is a meaningful milestone for us, and we’re excited to bring our style of hospitality and chef-driven menu to Olathe.”

The opening was in concert with the launch of Third Street Social’s new seasonal spring menu, showcasing fresh, vibrant flavors and thoughtfully crafted dishes that highlight the best of the season.

Third Street has a long history with former U.S. President Harry S. Truman, who began his political career by announcing his intention to run for a judgeship for Jackson County, Missouri in the early 1920s on the site of their flagship location in downtown Lee’s Summit.

You’ll see several nods to Truman and his wife, Bess, throughout the Third Street Social in downtown Olathe, including artwork and two private rooms named in their honor.

Doors opened on April 30 and an official grand opening and ribbon cutting took place on Wednesday, May 20. A huge crowd turned out for the event along with Molloy, Third Street management and staff, Olathe Mayor John Bacon, and several members of the Olathe City Council.

Mayor Bacon praised Third Street and said that their arrival is another huge win for Olathe and helps continue downtown Olathe’s resurgence and renaissance.

Molloy said he was thrilled with the way Olathe has embraced the Third Street family and can’t wait to see the continued development of historic downtown Olathe.
