Olathe Chamber terms Garmin expansion as “progressive and pivotal”

Olathe, Kan. – The planned expansion of Garmin Headquarters in Olathe will go down as one of the most progressive and pivotal events in the community’s and region’s history, Olathe Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive Officer Tim McKee said.

“Garmin is an international corporation that could have chosen to expand anywhere in the world,” McKee said. “But the company’s leadership is once again affirming its commitment to our community and region with this expansion. Garmin has been an excellent corporate partner and supportive of countless efforts that make Olathe a wonderful place to live, work and play.”

The Olathe Planning Commission is set to review on Monday evening the Garmin master plan for a more than 700,000 square-foot facility at its headquarters on the northwest corner of 151st Street and Ridgeview Road.

“The expansion will have a tremendous economic impact on the region,” McKee said. “The approximately 2,700 jobs that this new development could accommodate will be some of the best in the region and solidify us as one of the most advanced technology centers in the nation. While we know the jobs will not be created overnight, we believe it will create a ripple-effect for the area and further strengthen our economy and provide opportunity to our citizens.”
