Certified Green Partners Announced

 

JOHNSON COUNTY, KAN. (Jan. 21, 2016)—Johnson County is awarding seven local businesses and organizations with the title Certified Green Partner for their achievements in waste reduction and resource conservation. These recipients represent the inaugural group of Certified Green Partners.

The Johnson County Board of County Commissioners will recognize the partners at a reception on Feb. 4 at 8:30 a.m. at the Johnson Administration Building, 111 S. Cherry St., Olathe, Kan.

Lifted Logic (Overland Park):  A web design company; implemented a worm composting program for food scraps in their break room and a washing machine for cloth napkins, in addition to being dedicated recyclers.

Go Green Granite (Olathe): A granite repurposing company, each year they keep hundreds of tons of usable granite out of the landfill; using it to produce beautiful items such as back splashing, tiles, pave stones, and even cutting boards.

Johnson County Community College (Olathe):  Are diverting nearly 50 percent of all waste from the landfill, compost food waste on-site, and removed Styrofoam from their cafeteria. They also have a very robust sustainability program on campus and house the Center for Sustainability.   

Ten Thousand Villages (Overland Park): Fair trade retailer who is working towards zero landfilling by reusing, repurposing, and recycling almost everything that comes through their store.

Downtown Overland Park Partnership (Overland Park): Paving the way for businesses in Downtown Overland Park through their use of green cleaning products, reusable towels and energy savings.

MARCK Recycling (Gardner): Is a material recovery facility, who help other businesses recycle by finding end markets for their recyclables.

The Land Source (Mission): Real estate Company; not only recycle in their office, also used reclaimed lumber during a recent renovation.
