JCCC trustee elected to national college association
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Jerry Cook, a member of the board of trustees at Johnson County Community College, has been elected to a three-year term on the board of directors of the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT).
Cook, who joined the national organization in June to complete the unexpired term of a former director, was elected to the three-year term during the ACCT Leadership Conference on Oct. 15-16 in San Diego. The association announced its 2015-16 election results this week in a press release.
“I am honored to represent Johnson County Community College and the Kansas Association of Community College Trustees at the national level, as we advance the community college experience of inspiring learning to transform lives!” Cook said.
The ACCT represents community college trustees throughout the United States and several outlying territories, including some Canadian provinces.
Cook is the first JCCC trustee to serve on the national board. He also was elected to serve as the regional chairman representing the Western region of the United States. The region is comprised of 10 states, three Canadian provinces and two Canadian territories.
Cook is a past president of the JCCC board of trustees. Recently retired, he was president of the Overland Park Convention & Visitors Bureau for more than 18 years.
As a nonprofit educational organization located in Washington, ACCT is a major voice of community college trustees to the presidential administration, U.S. Congress, departments of education and labor and more.
The organization educates community and technical college trustees through annual conferences focused on leadership development and advocacy, as well as through publications and online and face-to-face institutes and seminars.
