Third Thursday · Visiting Artist Presentation
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art at Johnson County Community College will host a visiting artist presentation on Thursday, Sept. 17, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the museum’s Hudson Auditorium, with guest architect Josh Shelton and JCCC faculty moderator Ted Meadows, associate professor of architecture. The program is free and open to the public. No tickets or reservations are required.
Shelton is a principal with el dorado inc and has served as principal in charge on the following key projects: Cox Communication Facility, Hodgdon Gunpowder Facility, National Center for Drug Free Sport, FLEX, Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence. Shelton is chair of the steering committee, Art through Architecture, and is a board member for the Arts Council of Johnson County and a commissioner for the Johnson County Public Art Commission. A passion for public art is evident from el dorado’s ongoing collaboration with nationally recognized artists on large-scale projects. They declare: “We understand the spiritual and emotional potential of public art.” Shelton will be presenting bridging typologies • el dorado inc. He has expertise in all five of el dorado’s studios: commercial, residential, civic/institutional, public art and industrial. Shelton earned his bachelor of architecture degree at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Tennessee.
The next Third Thursday program will be held on Oct.15.
These free programs typically feature two artists working within the KC region, with each artist giving a 20-minute presentation followed by discussion in the museum’s Hudson Auditorium. Museum staff facilitate conversation and audience participation by pairing each artist with a JCCC faculty moderator.
Third Thursday programs are designed to promote student interface with professional artists working within our community and beyond.
The Nerman Museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. The museum is closed Mondays and all JCCC holidays.
