GRANTHAM UNIVERSITY HOSTS SECOND INSTALLMENT IN LECTURE SERIES ON BEST PRACTICES FOR HIRING VETERANS

Army Officer and Military/Veteran Recruiter among Experts
Sharing Strategies for Human Resource Professionals

Kansas City, Mo. – October 27, 2015 – Grantham University, a 64-year-old institution delivering accredited online degree programs to working adults and active-duty military students around the world, will host a second session in its signature lecture series with an event for human resource and hiring managers to learn best practices, veteran hiring strategies and receive advice in helping veterans transition to a corporate work environment. The topic will focus onHow to Map Veteran Skills and Career Goals to Corporate Opportunities.”

Speakers include a variety of experts in veteran hiring in the corporate and government sectors, representing Garmin, Koch, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, The Center for Transitional Leadership and Grantham. The keynote will feature a presentation by Rob Ells, a retired Army officer and military/veteran recruiter for Quicken Loans on “How to Connect Qualified Veterans to Incredible Civilian Job Opportunities.

According to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, veteran hiring practices nationwide are improving.  However, there is still room for additional improvement as unemployment for post-9/11 veterans, ages 24-34, is a full percent higher than civilians in the same demographic.

Steve Waldron, Grantham’s chief operating officer and a retired Marine Corps colonel, said, “Having served in the Marines for 27+ years, I know the distinctive skills our nation’s veterans can bring to the civilian workforce. A strong work ethic, tremendous leadership capabilities, the ability to stay focused under pressure – all valuable traits that serve an organization well, in both the military and the civilian worlds. The upcoming event allows us to help employers identify this talent as they mature their company’s veteran hiring practices.”

This event is designed for hiring managers and HR professionals who seek to understand the quality attributes veterans bring to the corporate workplace. Attendees will learn more about how employers can implement best practices in helping former military personnel make a smooth transition into the civilian workforce.

When:            Thursday, November 12th, 11:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
