OVERLAND PARK REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER OPENS OLATHE’S
FIRST FREESTANDING EMERGENCY ROOM

Extension of the hospital’s Emergency Department, state-of-the-art, full-service ER will handle patients from across the area in a convenient setting.

Olathe, KS – Overland Park Regional Medical Center (OPRMC) —part of HCA Midwest Health, Kansas City’s leading healthcare provider—announces the opening of a 24/7 full-service Emergency Room in Olathe.  Located at 13505 S. Alden in Olathe, in front of Academy Sports and Walmart east of 135th and Black Bob, the freestanding Emergency Department offers everything a patient would receive at a traditional hospital ER, such as broken bones, loss of consciousness, pain or bleeding, and everyday illnesses and ailments. In addition to walk-in patients, ambulances will bring patients from across the area.

The OPRMC ER of Olathe begins accepting patients today. A Community Open House will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 25, with free bike helmet fitting and giveaway courtesy of the Brain Injury Association of Kansas.

The OPRMC ER of Olathe will offer Board-certified Emergency Physicians and a highly trained nursing team and support staff who will work closely with EMS service providers to ensure efficient transport and emergency care. Encompassing more than 10,000 square feet, the ER of Olathe is complete with CT scanner, MRI, full laboratory for blood and other tests, full radiology department, trauma room, contamination room, isolation room and 10 patient rooms. Through a digital communications system, the ER can stay in communication with surrounding area emergency rooms and divert traffic to the ER of when needed.  If hospitalization is required, OPRMC will follow standardized medical protocols to safely transfer patients in a timely manner.

Kevin Hicks, Chief Executive Officer of Overland Park Regional Medical Center, notes the ER of Olathe represents a collaborative effort with the City of Olathe. “We look forward to many years of partnering with this dynamic and growing community by offering high-quality and compassionate care,” he says.  “This facility will provide the same quality, expert emergency care the community has relied on at OPRMC for more than 35 years.”

“As part of the HCA Midwest Health network, our access to resources—physicians, technology, surgical, services— is unmatched in the area,” says ER of Olathe Medical Director Mike Museousky, D.O. “This was designed to get people connected to the right service as quick as possible. Here, we have a waiting room but there is no waiting in this waiting room. We’re all about patient care and doing the right thing for the patient.”

Jamie Robinson, Director of the ER of Olathe, notes the new facility is a great option for children and those with sports injuries in south Johnson County.  “This state-of-the-art ER will lighten the burden on other area emergency rooms,” says Robinson, adding that people from those areas are already transported to the OPRMC Emergency Room on a regular basis. “We are close to many sporting facilities, and with a host of Board-certified sports medicine and pediatric physicians, we can quickly evaluate, treat and arrange for follow up specialty care.”

HCA Midwest Health has the metro area’s largest group of Level I, Level II, and Level III Trauma Centers and emergency departments.  The five hospitals with Emergency Departments and accredited Trauma Centers include Research Medical Center, Level I; Overland Park Regional Medical Center, Level II; Centerpoint Medical Center, Level II; Belton Regional Medical Center, Level III; and Lee’s Summit Medical Center, Level III.  Research Medical Center-Brookside Campus and Menorah Medical Center round out HCA Midwest Health’s major emergency departments.
