A special message to our Olathe Chamber members

Message to our Olathe Chamber members

As we continue to closely monitor the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) situation and practice social distancing, we want to be certain we’re doing everything we can to help keep our members and our community safe.

To that end, all Olathe Chamber of Commerce events are suspended until April 13. This includes the State of the County Luncheon, Chamber Coffees, Chamber Ribbon Cuttings, all committee meetings, Leadership Olathe activities and advisory council meetings. As we move closer to April 13, we’ll re-evaluate and be sure to keep all our members informed about our plans moving forward.

“As always, protecting the health and well-being of our members and the entire community is our top priority,” Tim McKee, CEO of the Olathe Chamber said. “We encourage all our members to remain diligent when it comes to medical care, practice social distancing and good personal hygiene.”

Please check the following the most up-to-date information, processes and procedures.

  • Center for Disease Control
  • Johnson County Department of Health and Environment
  • Olathe Public Schools
  • Kansas Department of Tourism
  • U.S. Chamber of Commerce
  • Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives

Each of these resources are invaluable. Along with the county, CDC, Johnson County and City of Olathe, we’ll continue to work to provide you with the latest information on our preparedness efforts and guidance on the role you can play to support a healthy community.

Meanwhile, everyone is reminded to follow good hygiene. You can help prevent the spread of any type of flu, virus or illness by taking actions such as:

  • Washing hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
  • Cover your cough with a tissue or your sleeve and then wash your hands
  • Avoiding close contact with people who are sick
  • Staying away from work, school or other people if you become sick with respiratory symptoms like fever and cough
  • You might consider alternatives to shaking hands.

Please seek appropriate levels of medical care and personal preparedness. The latest data indicates that 80 percent of people who contract COVID-19 will experience mild, cold-like symptoms. If you are having mild symptoms and want to seek medical treatment, we encourage you to call your regular doctor for guidance, as you would for a typical flu-like illness. Those experiencing mild symptoms only should avoid visiting the Emergency Department or calling 911 in order to save those resources for those who are having severe illness and other emergencies.

Finally, there’s no need to wear surgical or N95 masks if you are without symptoms. Surgical masks are only to be worn by people who are coughing and very ill.
