Wonders of Discovery
If you are interested in learning more native plants and pollinators or just want a reason to get outside and appreciate nature while connecting with people in your community, you will want to attend “Wonders of Discovery.” The event will be held at the Pollinator Prairie at 320 S Blake Street in Olathe. Visitors will be greeted with beautiful gardens of blooming native plants filled with busy pollinators. Wonders of Discovery is a free event for all ages hosted annually by the Johnson County Extension Master Naturalists. There will be exhibits on birds of prey, the importance of pollinators and native plants, simple things you can do at home to support nature, soil conservation, and much more. Games and activities are planned for children, so this will be a fun and educational event for the whole family. Did you know that pollinators are responsible for one out of every three bites of food you eat? Most flowering plants need help with pollination to produce seeds and fruit. Pollinators provide the essential service of transferring pollen from plant to plant to fertilize flowers so they can grow into the wide variety of fruits, nuts and seeds that we enjoy. People need pollinators, but have you considered that pollinators need people too? There is so much to discover about these fascinating creatures and our important connection with them. Attending “Wonders of Discovery” will help you gain a greater appreciation for pollinators and the native plants that support them at the Pollinator Prairie, a prime example of habitat gardens. The Pollinator Prairie is free and open to the public from sunrise to sunset every day of the year and includes an accessible trail that winds around four native plant gardens. For more information on the Wonders of Discovery Event or the Pollinator Prairie, you can check out the Pollinator Prairie – Olathe KS page on Facebook and the Johnson County K-State Extension website.
Think Well: Sharpen & Recharge – Mental Fitness and the Power of Sleep
Join us for the second installment of Think Well, our community education series dedicated to lifelong brain health. Think Well: Sharpen & Recharge – Mental Fitness and the Power of Sleep explores two of the most powerful — and often overlooked — pillars of cognitive vitality: keeping your mind active and giving it the restorative sleep it needs to thrive. In this engaging and practical session, our neuroscience experts will break down the science behind mental fitness and sleep, highlighting how cognitive stimulation, purposeful activity, and high-quality rest work together to strengthen memory, improve focus, and support long-term brain health. You’ll learn how sleep impacts memory consolidation, toxin clearance in the brain, emotional regulation, and overall cognitive performance — and why protecting your sleep may be one of the most important investments you can make in your future brain health. Attendees will walk away with actionable strategies to sharpen mental resilience, build brain-boosting daily habits, and improve sleep quality — along with practical tools you can begin using right away. Whether you’re looking to stay mentally sharp, enhance your performance, or reduce your risk of cognitive decline, this session will equip you with the knowledge and inspiration to recharge your brain and think well for years to come. Free to attend, please RSVP at classregistration@adventhealth.com
