SUMMARY:As You Like It - Courtyard Shakespeare - Free Outdoor Shakespeare
DESCRIPTION:As You Like It | Courtyard Shakespeare \nDates: June 11\, 12\, and 13\, 2026 \nTime: 7:30pm each night \nLocation: Heritage Park Shelter 9 \nAdmission: Free to attend | Suggested donation welcome \nAccessibility: ADA accessible | All ages \nDescription: \nCourtyard Shakespeare presents As You Like It at Heritage Park Shelter 9 in Overland Park. Three nights of free outdoor Shakespeare for all of Kansas City. \nThis modern adaptation sets the play in a summer camp. Two pairs of feuding brothers set the story in motion. Rosalind\, banished by her uncle\, disguises herself as a man and escapes to the Forest of Arden with her cousin Celia. Orlando flees his own brother's murderous schemes and ends up there too. In the forest\, identities shift\, romance blooms in unexpected ways\, and everyone finds their way home. \nCourtyard Shakespeare is an educational theatre company\, bringing together high school students\, college students\, and professional Kansas City actors to create work side by side. That collaboration between emerging and experienced artists is central to everything the company does. \nFounded in 2018 by drama teacher Dan C. Schmidt\, who believed theatre should be free and available to everyone. After Dan's passing\, his students and colleagues carried his vision forward. This June marks the company's sixth production since then. The show is funded through a suggested donation model and an annual GoFundMe so that admission never has to be charged. \nBring a lawn chair\, low or high\, and some food and drinks! \nWebsite / More Info: courtyardshakespeare.com \nContact: Trevor Seyl | courtyardshakespeare@gmail.com \nCategories: Theatre | Performing Arts | Outdoor Events | Free Events | Community Arts | Educational

SUMMARY:Wonders of Discovery
DESCRIPTION:If you are interested in learning more native plants and pollinators or just want a reason to get outside and appreciate nature while connecting with people in your community\, you will want to attend “Wonders of Discovery.” The event will be held at the Pollinator Prairie at 320 S Blake Street in Olathe. Visitors will be greeted with beautiful gardens of blooming native plants filled with busy pollinators. \nWonders of Discovery is a free event for all ages hosted annually by the Johnson County Extension Master Naturalists. There will be exhibits on birds of prey\, the importance of pollinators and native plants\, simple things you can do at home to support nature\, soil conservation\, and much more. Games and activities are planned for children\, so this will be a fun and educational event for the whole family. \nDid you know that pollinators are responsible for one out of every three bites of food you eat? Most flowering plants need help with pollination to produce seeds and fruit. Pollinators provide the essential service of transferring pollen from plant to plant to fertilize flowers so they can grow into the wide variety of fruits\, nuts and seeds that we enjoy. \nPeople need pollinators\, but have you considered that pollinators need people too? There is so much to discover about these fascinating creatures and our important connection with them. \nAttending “Wonders of Discovery” will help you gain a greater appreciation for pollinators and the native plants that support them at the Pollinator Prairie\, a prime example of habitat gardens. The Pollinator Prairie is free and open to the public from sunrise to sunset every day of the year and includes an accessible trail that winds around four native plant gardens. \n For more information on the Wonders of Discovery Event or the Pollinator Prairie\, you can check out the Pollinator Prairie – Olathe KS page on Facebook and the Johnson County K-State Extension website.

SUMMARY:Self Evident Truths - Grading the Declaration of Independence's Legacy at 250
DESCRIPTION:JCCC's CoLab and American Public Square are proud to partner and host “Self Evident Truths – Grading the Declaration of Independence's Legacy at 250”.    \nHow are we living up to our founding principles in contemporary America?   \nAs we approach the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence\, this panel invites a candid reexamination of its legacy. \nChanneling the spirit of the document’s original authors\, each panelist will be asked to grade how well the United States has lived up to the Declaration’s ideals and where we’ve fallen short. \nFrom lofty principles like equality and the consent of the governed to the document’s lesser known but timely grievances against King George III\, this discussion will explore how the Declaration resonates in modern America centuries later. \nThis event aims to move beyond celebration or cynicism and offer a constructive report card on American democracy\, 250 years in the making.   \nPanelists include Dr. Lindsay Cherveinsky\, Executive Director of the George Washington Presidential Library\, Akhil Reed Amar\, Professor at Yale University\, and Yuval Levin\, Director of Social\, Cultural\, and Constitutional Studies at the American Enterprise Institute and former member of the White House domestic policy staff under President George W. Bush and will be moderated by Nadine Strossen\, Professor at New York Law School and past President of the American Civil Liberties Union.  \nRegister: https://www.jccc.edu/midwest-trust-center/events/2025-2026/self-evident-truths.html
