Foulston Siefkin LLP welcomes two attorneys

Two attorneys have joined Foulston Siefkin LLP. One as a transactional law practice group in the firm’s Overland Park office and the second in their government affairs and public policy team as a government affairs consultant.

Kansas City attorney Randal O. Carlson joined last month and will continue to advise clients in estate planning, trust and probate administration, real estate transactions, tax, and business law.

For four decades, Carlson has worked extensively in estate and tax planning, real estate transactions, and advising closely held businesses on corporate and business succession matters. Additionally, he supports individual and professional fiduciaries on the legal, tax, and related issues arising in the context of estate and trust administration.

Carlson received his Master of Laws (LL.M.) from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law. He earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of North Dakota School of Law and graduated from Macalester College with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Prior to joining Foulston, Carlson was the managing member at Carlson & Associates LC. As the largest law firm based in Kansas, with offices in Kansas City, Topeka, and Wichita, Foulston Siefkin LLP provides legal services to a broad range of clients — from large national and international corporations to closely held businesses and individuals. Foulston’s lawyers are consistently recognized as among the leading lawyers in the United States. For more than 100 years, Foulston’s lawyers have provided counsel in a wide range of practice areas, including civil and complex litigation, tax, business matters, employment and labor, and healthcare. Also, Eric L. Sexton, PhD, has joined Foulston Siefkin LLP’s government affairs and public policy team as a government affairs consultant. Along with attorneys Jim Rankin, Ed Watson, and government affairs consultant Gary Robbins, Sexton will provide legislative monitoring and lobbying services as well as contributing to the weekly Kansas Legislative Insights newsletter during the Kansas legislative session.

Sexton, a member of Wichita State University’s government relations team for 18 years and most recently its executive director of government relations, has built strong relationships at the local, state, and federal level. Sexton’s thorough understanding of legislative processes, funding, and the people involved combine to make him a powerful advocate for clients whose businesses or industries are affected by regulations, administrative agencies, or elected officials. He will spend time in Topeka weekly during the legislative session.

With Bachelor of Business Administration and Master of Public Administration degrees from Wichita State University, Sexton earned his doctorate in political science from the University of Kansas. Active in his community, Sexton currently serves on the Wesley Medical Center Board of Trustees and the Derby Community Foundation. In 2002, then-President George Bush appointed Sexton to the Presidential Commission for the National Museum of African American History and Culture. As the largest law firm based in Kansas, with offices in Wichita, Kansas City, and Topeka, Foulston Siefkin LLP provides legal services to a broad range of clients — from large national and international corporations to closely held businesses and individuals.
