What exactly is "Welcome Home, Cowboy Boots!"?
C.H. Hyer, an Olathe bootmaker, made the first true cowboy boot back in the 1880’s, and since Olathe is the birthplace of the cowboy boot, we are going to feature them in a big way.
Welcome Home, Cowboy Boots! is a public art exhibition that places 12 6-foot tall fiberglass boots designed and created by local artists in Olathe’s landscapes for the public to view and interact with. While the base boot sculptures remain the same, each artist was inspired by the cultural influences and history of Olathe and moved by their own interpretation of the boot as an object of art. Welcome Home, Cowboy Boots! is funded through individual and corporate sponsorships.
Olathe is an ideal location for the boots, given its celebrated history and cultural riches. Tthe streets and parks of Olathe, which used to be part of the historical Oregon an Santa Fe Trails, now host several fiberglass artist created boots turning Olathe into a forum for public art – filled with innovation and creativity.
